Visit from the General Secretary of YMCA Russia
Tuesday 25th April 6pm followed by food and drinks in the bar
Alexei Kostyakov, the General Secretary of YMCA Russia, will be giving a talk on the history of the YMCA movement in Russia on the evening of Tuesday 25th April.
Alexei’s home town is Ivanovo and is known as the Manchester of Russia, with a proud history of cotton weaving. The Ivanovo textile museum has machinery made by Mather and Platt Engineering, of which Sir William Mather was owner. Sir William served as the Manchester YMCA Chairman and later President from 1953 to 1991.
This is a great opportunity to learn a little about the history of the YMCA before, during, and after the Soviet era. All are welcome!
6pm Bridgewater Room, Castlefield Hotel.
